Joint UK-India call for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases Research
Closing date: 21 October 2010
The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) will jointly-fund research into chronic non-communicable diseases, a group of conditions responsible for approximately 60 per cent of deaths globally.
The initiative will focus on practical interventions to prevent and treat diseases such as diabetes, stroke and heart disease.
Chronic non-communicable diseases are becoming more and more prevalent across the world and were announced in 2008 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to be the number one cause of death.
The call aims to promote collaborations between Indian and UK investigators in the area of chronic non-communicable diseases research, exploiting the mutual strengths of the two communities.
Proposals are invited from partnerships between academic groups based in India and the UK.
Letter of Intent submissions are due 21 October 2010 at 17:00 Indian Standard Time. For UK applicants this will be 12:30 on 21 October 2010.
