Professor Sir Gordon Conway, chairman of the UKCDS Steering Board says, "The future wellbeing of mankind requires effective cooperation between three very big players: government, private foundations and research councils. Science must have a voice in policy making both here in the UK and in developing countries and UKCDS aims to provide a coordinated response to current and future policy needs."
