Senior Hunger Policy and Research Adviser
Hunger Reduction is one of four strategic thematic priorities for Save the Children UK, along with Health, Education and Child Protection. Our work in Hunger Reduction aims to reduce malnutrition among children less than five years of age, through a combination of innovative programming in developing countries and advocacy that achieves policy and practice change at national and international level.
Tackling hunger, under-nutrition and food insecurity will require far-reaching changes at the international, national and sub-national levels, and our policy and research, and advocacy work will reflect these challenges. In this role, you will develop our policy thinking and positions on hunger, nutrition and food insecurity, based on our programme experience and on knowledge in the wider international development sector.
You will be responsible for generating new research, reports, briefings and other policy materials for Save the Children, and will be expected to engage in policy and research debates on behalf of the organisation. Working closely with other hunger advisers, you will play an active part in the Hunger breakthrough strategy group and maintain a strong working relationship with the Head of Hunger in the Programme Policy and Quality Department.
You’ll need significant policy and research experience on hunger, nutrition and food security, including the ability to manage policy and research projects from conception to final completion. You must have highly developed analytical writing skills, proven sound strategic thinking and planning skills, and strong verbal communication skills at a level appropriate for high level external representation. A good understanding of the external policy environment and ability to assess trends and developments likely to affect advocacy is essential.
A post graduate qualification on issues directly related to food security, livelihoods and nutrition or international development policy is an asset as is experience as a media spokesperson and a working knowledge of another language (French or Spanish).
