HEFCE presentation on impact and REF
Presentation by Dr David Sweeney, Director of Research, Innovation and Skills at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
Dr Sweeney outlined the principles behind the controversial 'Impact' component of the new Research Excellence Framework (REF) proposals at a Development Studies Association (DSA) workshop in collaboration with UKCDS on 22 October 2009.

Under the proposed REF, 25% of the assessement will be based on research impact. Universities will need to demonstrate the economic and social impact of research using case studies and narratives supported by a set menu of indicators.
