New open access journal focussing on public health in Africa

The Journal of Public Health in AfricaAn open access journal focussing on health issues in the African continent has been launched.

The Journal of Public Health in Africa is a peer-reviewed, electronic quarterly that aims to 'move public health discourse from the background to the forefront'.

The first edition features original writing on topics of HIV/AIDS, the role of mass media in public health discourse and health workers migration.

Editor-in-Chief, Professor Abdu Ibrahim from the Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria, says the idea for the journal stemmed from observing the precarious state of public health care delivery in Africa.

Writing in his editorial, he said: 'The JPHIA is set up as non-profit making open source that will compete with other world class journals'.

The journal is published by PAGEPress, Italy, and fully indexed by the Directory of Open Access Journals.
