UKCDS Board discussion with Stephen O’Brien MP
UK Collaborative on Development Sciences (UKCDS) hosted a dinner discussion last night with Mr Stephen O’Brien, the Under Secretary of State for International Development.
UKCDS Board members attended the discussion led by UKCDS Chair, Professor Anne Glover on the topic: ‘How do other UK Government departments and UK research funders contribute to international development outcomes?’
The objectives for this meeting were as follows:
- To introduce the Minister to key decision makers in other government departments and research funders who contribute to evidence or policy concerned with international development
- To demonstrate the range of UK science interests and activities and existing collaborations
- To explore the opportunity to make a step change in the way UK Government departments and research funders contribute to achieving international development outcomes – in line with the ethos of Andrew Mitchell’s recent speech ‘Beyond Aid’
Andrew Mitchell’s full speech can be found on the DFID website
