Making science work for development

Our Research Uptake ad Impact work recognises that simply producing high quality evidence through rigorous research is often not enough to have an impact on the decisions of policy makers and practitioners. Research programmes that successfully lead to uptake usually include aspects such as strong user-engagement, research communications, and the help of intermediaries to translate and promote the research.

The activities take place across two platforms:

  • Online - publications, news, blogs, case studies and event coverage on research uptake and impact are freely available on our website
  • Events - we host events on behalf of our members and partners to share learning on research uptake and impact

Our members have committed to spend £2.2bn on research for development funding between 2015 and 2020. It is vital that we share how UK funded research contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and how it will improve the lives of some of the poorest in the world.

What we do:

UKCDS works with members and partners across the globe to:

  • Share best practice on research uptake and impact
  • Create communication outputs to encourage research uptake
  • Produce events on behalf of our members to share research funding opportunities
  • Identify new or added value opportunities for enhancing future activities

UKCDS Outputs:

  • Communications Forum - convenes twice a year. The group is comprised of members and development practitioners to talk about current trends in this area.
