Department for Energy and Climate Change
DECC joined UKCDS in October 2009 and its Chief Scientist, Professor David Mackay, sits on the UKCDS Board.
DECC's objectives are to:
- ensure energy is secure, affordable and efficient
- bring about the transition to a low-carbon Britain
- achieve an international agreement on climate change at Copenhagen in December 2009.
DECC is working with developing countries to help them improve their understanding of the effects of climate change.
The department also works through the European Union, the G8, the Major Economies Forum and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to find ways to reach global agreement on how to address climate change.
