Department for Transport

The Department for Transport (DfT) is the UK government department responsible for transport issues.

Its portfolio covers Aviation, Rail, Roads and Shipping.

Climate Change is a priority. The department aims to reduce the environmental impact of transport by cutting UK greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80 per cent by 2050.

To meet this target, the department is undertaking extensive research into low-carbon transportation and bio-fuels, which has potential relevance to developing countries.

DfT is working with UKCDS members to explore ideas for collaborative research in these areas.

The Chief Scientist of DfT, Professor Brian Collins, sits on the UKCDS Board.
