The Commission, science and development
The main objective of EU development policy is to eradicate poverty and build a more stable and equitable world.
The European Commission’s current budget for development (2008-2013) is €22.7 billion.
The Commission also funds development relevant research and research in partnership with developing countries.
As the connections between science and development within the Commission are not simple, UKCDS has produced a four- page briefing to provide an overview of the work of the Commission on science, research and international development, with a focus on Africa.
The briefing outlines the parts of the EC involved in international development, provides an introduction to the joint Africa-Europe Strategy and describes how research is funded by the Commission. The final page of the document provides links to more detailed information.
