Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology research under Framework Programme 7

Opportunities for international cooperation in food, agriculture and fisheries, and biotechnology research under the FP7 2011 work programme.

The primary aim of funding the 'Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology' research theme under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is to build a European Knowledge Based Bio-Economy (KBBE.

All topics in the 2011 work programme contribute to at least one of the following five societal challenges:
  1. Primary production mitigating and adapting to climate change
  2. Greening the industry
  3. Food security and safety for Europe and beyond
  4. A socially inclusive and healthy Europe
  5. Oceans for the

International cooperation activities

All Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology activities are open to researchers and research institutions from countries outside the EU.

Certain topics aim to foster research both for and with developing countries, thereby contributing to achieving of the Millennium Development Goals. Cooperation with industrialised countries focuses on emerging new scientific fields.

Calls specifically targeting non-EU countries:

New/next generation of researchers for Neglected Zoonoses at the animal-human interface (KBBE.2011.1.3-01)
Target countries: Any International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC).

Role of aquaculture in improving food security and eradicating poverty worldwide
Target countries: At least three different ICPCs.

Partnering Initiative on biomass production and biowaste conversion through biotechnological approaches
Target country: India

Translation mechanisms for targeting interventions on micro-nutrients (KBBE.2011.2.2 -04)
Target countries: South Asia and South East Asia

Perennial grasses: optimising biomass (KBBE.2011.3.1-02: )
Target countries: Any two from different ICPCs.

BioWASTE – Novel biotechnological approaches for transforming industrial and/or municipal biowaste into bioproducts (KBBE.2011.3.4-0)
Target countries: Any two from different ICPCs.

Support to European Commission (EC) activities related to international co-operation with Australia- Canada-New Zealand and with the USA (KBBE.2011.4-02: Support )
Target countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA.
