Food Security

Global food demand is set to double in 2050. Climate change, water shortages and energy scarcity threaten global supplies and exacerbate hunger for the world's poorest people.

UKCDS members and the secretariat are working together through a number of UK and international initiatives to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of global food markets.

Activities that UKCDS members are involved in include:

• Working groups to address skills and capacity problems and improve the translation and exploitation of food research
• The development of a framework and roadmap for research
• Developing partnerships with the private sector
• Promotion of UK agri-food skills

UKCDS have also produced a working paper, 'Food security: An overview of stakeholder activities', that provides an overview of the main UK activities focussing on food security and the main stakeholders involved in food security related research.
