Research and Policy Analyst

Charlie McLaren is the Research and Policy Analyst at the UK Collaborative on Development Sciences (UKCDS).

Charlie’s Role
Charlie works with government and non-government research stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of the UK research base for international development. Providing research and policy advice for the UKCDS Board and members, Charlie also identifies opportunities for research collaboration that cut across organisations and disciplines. He facilitates discussions between key international development players for the benefit of research impact.

Charlie leads UKCDS work themes on water, climate change and complexity science. His main focus during 2011-12 will be on improving the strategic collaboration between public, private and humanitarian organisations in water related research and innovation; and encouraging joined-up internationally focused climate change research to inform adaptation and mitigation.

About Charlie
Charlie has a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences from Bristol University and MA in Environment, Politics and Globalisation completed at Kings College London. During his postgraduate studies he was an intern at the Institute for European Environmental Policy investigating the implementation of EU water policies within Member States.
