Director of the UK Collaborative on Development Sciences

Dr Andrée Carter is the Director of the UK Collaborative on Development Sciences (UKCDS).
Andrée’s role
Andrée is responsible for bringing together key funders and stakeholders in the UK’s development sciences research base and to help facilitate discussions between all of the parties interested in the science for development agenda.
She directs the UKCDS secretariat, which provides strategic advice and the evidence to the UKCDS Chair and Board on which to base their decisions. In addition, Andrée leads UKCDS work themes on disasters, agri-food and green growth. During 2011-12 her focus will be on identifying how UK scientists can better collaborate with developing countries.
She is the Department for International Development’s (DFID) representative on the Council of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Council member of the Development Studies Association. She is a member of the Sir John Beddington’s Food Research Partnership and expert advisor to the Economic and Social Research Council/DFID poverty alleviation programme.
About Andrée
Originally trained as a soil scientist Andrée has worked closely with UK and EU Governments, research and corporate organisations to protect and improve the quality of the environment and those who are dependent on it for their livelihoods. She was previously the Director of Science and Environment in ADAS UK Ltd, and prior to that was a Principal Research Scientist at Cranfield University.
