Outgoing Chair and Chief Scientific Adviser for the EU

Professor Anne Glover took over from Professor Sir Gordon Conway as Chair of UKCDS on 1 September 2009 and handed over to the incoming chair Professor Robert Watson in January 2012.
 
Professor Glover's role as Chief Scientific Adviser for the EU will involve providing scientific advice to EU policy makers, as well as acting as a science ambassador to the EU. You can read more about Professor Glover's new appointment here.
 
Professor Glover was appointed as Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland in August 2006, where she worked to enhance Scotland's reputation as a science nation. As well as her role in the Scottish Government, Anne held a Personal Chair of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Aberdeen and honorary positions at the Rowett and Macaulay Institutes as well as the University of New South Wales, Sydney.
 
She is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Arts, the American Academy of Microbiology and the Institute of Biology and a member of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
 
She has a strong commitment to ensuring scientific knowledge is used to the benefit of the community and is keen to convey the excitement and relevance of science to non-scientists.
