Professor David Clary FRS was appointed as Chief Scientific Adviser to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in August 2009.

Professor Clary is President of Magdalen College Oxford, Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and, until recently, was the President of the Faraday Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
 
He has made significant research contributions in his own discipline of chemistry and to a range of inter-disciplinary scientific areas.
 
He is highly regarded by both the international and UK scientific community, having worked with leading research teams in the UK, Europe, Asia and the USA.
 
In his role of Chief Scientific Advisor to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Professor Clary will provide advice to the Foreign Secretary, Ministers and officials on science, technology and innovation.
 
His work will both strengthen the scientific and engineering capacity within the FCO and ensure the FCO's work on key science and technology issues, such as climate change, energy, food security, counter-terrorism and counter-proliferation undergoes proper scientific challenge.
