The health benefits of tackling climate change

Published in The Lancet, November 2009

A major international study has concluded that many measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will have positive impacts for health. These co-benefits will offset at least some of the costs of climate change mitigation, and should be taken into account in international negotiations.

Led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the study modelled the impacts of climate change mitigation policies on public health in developed and developing countries, focusing on four areas: household energy, urban transport, electricity generation and food agriculture.

The study was puplished as a series of papers in The Lancet in November 2009.
