UKCDS response to FP8 call for evidence

Prepared by the UKCDS secretariat
January 2011

Reducing global poverty and improving the development opportunities for low income countries should be an explicit part of international cooperation efforts in the next EU Framework Programme, FP8.

This is one of the key messages of UKCDS’ response to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) consultation on how the next EU research programme—which will run from 2014–2020—should be developed.

Focusing on issues relating to International Cooperation within the Framework Programme, the response was prepared by the UKCDS secretariat based on our experiences as the International Cooperation (INCO) National Contact Point for FP7, and nominated expert on the INCO Programme Committee, with some input from some members.

We specifically focused on the question: How should FP8 engage with countries outside the EU or associated to the Framework Programme in addressing global challenges?

This and other feedback collected will be used to inform a Government strategy paper on UK priorities, which will be presented to the European Commission in 2011.
