Why no thought for food?
A UK Parliamentary Inquiry into Global Food Security
Published January 2010
Prepared by the The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Agriculture and Food for Development, this report calls on the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to raise the percentage of its overseas aid going to agriculture and food security to 10% of its total budget – in line with the commitments made by African countries at the Maputo Declaration (2003).
The report also recommends that the UK government:
- Re-establish Agriculture and Food at the Centre of DFID’s Fight Against Poverty
- Re-focus on Agricultural Education and Extension
- Change legislation to promote individual’s right to food in domestic and international markets
The report is being presented to DFID for a response.
